Dive into Surf History!
Katin Surf Shop, born in 1954, is a Huntington Beach gem you can’t miss! It all started with Nancy and Walter Katin crafting boat covers in Surfside, CA. Their rugged canvas covers found new life as custom boat shorts, and a legendary surf brand was born.
One day, a local kid named Corky Carroll walked in, seeking surf-specific shorts. He became one of the world’s first pro surfers, and Katin’s shorts became iconic board shorts!
Nancy initiated the Katin PRO/AM Team Challenge in ’77, hosting legends like Tom Curren, Kelly Slater, and more. She kept Katin simple amidst the surf boom of the ’80s.
When Nancy passed in ’86, seamstress Sato Hughes and her son Glenn carried on Katin’s legacy with the same dedication.
Today, Katin is a California surf culture iconโa must-visit to soak in the pioneer spirit!
